Kim Lars Bjorkegen, the head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, has predicted that Nigeria’s Super Falcons will triumph over Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final on Saturday. The Super Falcons are aiming for their unprecedented 10th WAFCON title and seek to make up for their semi-final defeat to Morocco in the 2022 tournament. Meanwhile, Morocco aims to improve upon their previous performance after losing 2-1 to South Africa in the final three years ago. To reach this final, the Super Falcons won against the champions South Africa with a score of 13-1, while Morocco advanced to the final after a penalty shootout victory over Ghana, with the match ending 1-1 after regulation and extra time. After Ghana’s 2-1 victory over South Africa in the third-place match, Bjorkegen shared his thoughts on why he believes the Super Falcons will succeed against the home team. “I believe this will be an intriguing match as both teams have their unique qualities. However, I perceive that Nigeria has more potential and higher quality overall,” he stated. “Nigeria boasts an abundance of talented players, and I think their second team could still claim the tournament victory—that’s just my view. Nevertheless, Morocco is quite well-organized, so if Nigeria underperforms, Morocco could take the win. Still, I have a strong inclination that the Super Falcons will succeed, and I’ve placed my bet of $1 on Nigeria.” The Super Falcons have consistently defeated host nations in the WAFCON final. Their initial match against a host nation in this final took place in 2000 against South Africa, where the Nigerian women’s team claimed a 2-0 victory. Later, during the 2016 tournament held in Cameroon, the Super Falcons emerged victorious again, winning 1-0 against the Indomitable Lionesses, thanks to a late goal from Desire Oparanozie.
