Daniel Bamayi and Ahmed Akinyele of the Flying Eagles have been named in the WAFU B U-20 Team of the Tournament. Their performances contributed significantly to the team’s second-place finish at the recent competition in Ghana. The best 11 of the tournament was largely composed of players from champions Côte d’Ivoire, who defeated the Flying Eagles 1-0 in the finals. A critical mistake by Ebenezer Harcourt late in the match allowed an Ivorian player to score, as he mishandled a set-piece, letting the ball slip and into the net. The WAFU B U-20 serves as a preparatory event for the Flying Eagles ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where they will be competing in the same group as Colombia, Norway, and Saudi Arabia. During the U-20 AFCON in Egypt, Aliyu Zubairu’s team triumphed over the host nation in the match for third place. Reported by James Agberebi.
