WATCH: Family seeks justice after five-year-old’s murder in Duduza

Duduza – The police are investigating the murder of a five-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a veld in Bluegum View, Duduza, on January 1. It is alleged she was raped and stabbed to death.

Her distraught mother, Palesa Mzima, said that at about 09:00 or 10:00 on January 1, she heard community members announce the death of a child at an open veld.

“Her father was the first to go to the veld to check if it was our daughter. When he came back, he confirmed that it was, indeed, Ntombenhle.

“I ran to the scene, and upon arrival, I found my daughter lying helplessly. That is when I broke down. I saw her neck had been cut open, her whole left side had deformed and the shorts and shoes she wore were full of blood.

“However, her lower private area was clean, yet her clothes had blood on them. It seemed as if she had been wiped clean,” explained Mzima.

Mzima said her daughter was home sleeping like every other child on December 31. She added that her disappearance was not noticeable.

“My child was a bubbly and friendly individual. She was always happy, full of life and not a naughty child. The suspected person was taken for questioning by the police, but he later returned.

“My child was killed painfully. I just want justice for her. I urge anyone with information about my daughter’s death to come forward so she can rest in peace,” she added.

The CoE MMC for development planning, Nomadlozi Nkosi, said they call on law enforcement agencies to ensure they never neglect issues concerning GBV.

“To the perpetrator, we are saying, your time is coming. As a community, let us work together to ensure the perpetrator is apprehended and off the streets. We are no longer safe in our own community because many adult men see women in young children.
