’We Aim to Win the Trophy’ — Zubairu States Before the Flying Eagles Face South Africa

Aliyu Zubairu, head coach of the Flying Eagles, has stated that his team is now focused on winning the trophy at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after qualifying for the World Cup. The seven-time champions triumphed over defending champions Senegal in the quarter-finals, winning 3-1 on penalties, which secured their spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Nigeria is set to face South Africa in the semi-finals on Thursday in Ismailia. “We will do everything to bring the trophy back home,” Zubairu emphasized. “Now that we’ve secured our spot in the World Cup, we’re all in for the trophy.” Zubairu suggested that he is familiar with the Amajita team. “I attended the match between South Africa and DR Congo,” he mentioned. “As a result, we understand their playing style well. They are a strong team, but we aim to counter their strengths and take advantage of their weaknesses.” Written by Adeboye Amosu
