‘We can win Lagos’ – PDP vows to rebuild party

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Amos Fawole, has vowed to reposition the opposition party in the state, insisting that Lagos remains electorally attainable through unity, discipline and deliberate organisation.

Speaking at his inauguration in Lagos on Friday, Fawole said his assumption of office went beyond a routine leadership change, describing it as a collective pledge to restore confidence in opposition politics and re-energise residents with a people-focused alternative.

According to him, the occasion symbolised a turning point in the party’s determination to challenge what he described as years of political inertia and governance that has failed to meet the aspirations of Lagosians.

Fawole said the PDP under his leadership would offer a credible and forward-looking option built on competence, inclusiveness, transparency and service delivery.

He commended the immediate past state executive committee for keeping the party’s structure intact through difficult times but cautioned members of the new leadership team that authority comes with responsibility.

“This moment is both an honour and a burden. The people of Lagos are watching. Party faithful are expectant. The youths are impatient for opportunity. Women demand inclusion. Professionals seek policy clarity,” he said.

Outlining his agenda, Fawole identified three core priorities for the new executive: rebuilding public trust, strengthening party structures from the ward level to the state, and fostering unity across all tendencies within the party.

He stressed that electoral victories would not be secured by rhetoric alone but by discipline, consistency and strong internal organisation.

“Rescuing Lagos is not about slogans; it is about organisation, discipline and consistency. It requires sacrifice from leaders and loyalty from members. It requires courage to speak the truth and wisdom to build consensus,” he said.

The chairman also assured party leaders across the South-West and at the national level of the Lagos PDP’s readiness to play a strategic role in boosting the party’s regional and national relevance, pledging cooperation to expand its political influence.

He extended an olive branch to the media and civil society organisations, welcoming scrutiny and noting that accountability is essential to democratic governance.

Addressing party members and supporters, Fawole called for patience, unity and resilience, expressing confidence that a united and organised PDP could alter the political landscape of the state.

“This inauguration is not an end; it is the beginning of renewed energy, disciplined politics and a Lagos where governance serves the people, not structures of privilege. Together, we will organise. Together, we will mobilise. Together, we will win,” he said.
