When the fear of lynching in social networks dictates public action (Par Aliou GORI)

The recent declaration of the Minister of Energy, affirming that “one is a minister only from Monday to Friday”, is at once incomprehensible, shocking and morally unqualifiable. It betrays a dangerously narrow conception of the public charge and reveals an unacceptable disinterestedness in such a critical national context. Being a minister cannot be reduced to an office function, with fixed hours. It is a permanent mission, a total commitment to the service of the Republic and its people. It is to be available seven days a week, whenever the public interest requires it. To affirm the contrary is to institutionalize la paresse, irresponsibility and detachment vis-à-vis the realities of the country. This attitude is all the more indecent since it emanates from a high official graciously paid, housed, fed, cared for and transported at the expense of the taxpayer, in a country where the State has difficulty mobilizing resources to ensure the essentials: health, education, research, food security, access to water, energy, or even basic infrastructure.
