Nafiu Bala, a factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has confirmed that he was in attendance when the interim leadership, led by David Mark, was installed in July 2025.
It was the beginning of ADC’s internal crisis, with two factions led by Mark and Bala.
INEC on Wednesday, announced it won’t recognize either group, following a Court of Appeal ruling on March 12.
On Monday, some videos showing Bala at the ADC meeting flooded social media.
But on Tuesday, Bala in a statement, said there was no deal made to pick Mark at the meeting.
“Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, the former National Chairman, was given a chance to speak, and he surprised everyone by announcing his resignation as National Chairman,” Bala said.
“He then gave membership cards to Sen. David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and named them Acting National Chairman and National Secretary.”
Bala said Nwosu’s actions were against the ADC Constitution, specifically Articles 8(2) and 9(4) from 2022, as amended.
He also said the constitution does not allow an outgoing chairman to pick a successor.
