World Blood Donor Day: The First Lady encourages Nigerians to give blood and help save lives.

On Blood Donor Day, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to donate blood to help those in urgent need. She emphasized that the theme for 2025, “Give blood, Give hope: together we save lives,” conveys a message of hope inherent in every drop of donated blood. Blood Donor Day was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2004 to showcase the positive effects of blood donation on patients, promote regular donations, and acknowledge the vital role of voluntary unpaid donors in saving lives. According to Kwapchi Bata Hamman, “World Blood Donor Day has grown into a major global health event, featuring various activities and campaigns worldwide to encourage blood donation.” The Special Assistant for Media & ICT to the President (Office of the Vice President) stated that, in honor of the occasion, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu participated in the Abuja City Marathon Walk, which went from Millennium Park to Eagle Square. Represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, the Vice President’s wife, the First Lady urged Nigerians to contribute safe blood.
