The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Super Eagles players invited for the 2026 World Cup African playoff will assemble in Morocco on November 9, five days before their crucial opener against Gabon.

Early camping for strategic preparation

Nigeria will face Gabon on November 13 in the first semi-final of the playoff. A victory will set up a final clash with either Cameroon or DR Congo on November 16.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce the stadiums for both fixtures soon, which will determine Africa’s representative in next March’s inter-confederation playoff in Mexico.

According to The Guardian, the list of invited players will be released before the end of October, with all players expected to report to Rabat for early acclimatisation and tactical preparation.

“Coach Eric Chelle has already submitted his programme to the NFF,” a source told The Guardian. “Letters to invited players will be sent out any time soon.”

Gusau confident of qualification

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism over Nigeria’s chances, revealing that preparations are already underway.

“We are aware of the countries we’re facing and the venue. Preparations have already started,” Gusau said.

He also praised the players’ commitment, stressing that World Cup qualification remains a personal and national priority.

“The level of commitment and zeal among the players is very high. They understand how important it is to qualify, for themselves, their careers, and the country.”

Federal Government support confirmed

Gusau further disclosed that the NFF has received full backing from the Federal Government and relevant agencies to ensure seamless preparation for the playoffs.

Nigeria last featured at the World Cup in 2018 and will be hoping to secure one of Africa’s remaining slots through the playoff pathway in Morocco.
