World Cup qualifying: Rohr calls on FIFA to impose a three-point penalty on South Africa.

Gernot Rohr, the former technical adviser of the Super Eagles, has called on FIFA to impose a penalty of three points and three goals on South Africa due to their use of an ineligible player during their 2-0 victory over Lesotho in March. Teboho Mokoena, who played in the match, should have been suspended as he had accumulated two yellow cards in earlier games. In a recent interview in France with Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Rohr, who now coaches the Benin Republic national team and shares Group C with Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe, stated: “I urge FIFA to clarify the points issue in our World Cup qualifying group, considering South Africa fielded an ineligible player. This violation necessitates them losing three points and three goals to Lesotho, the opposing team in that match. It is surprising that FIFA is taking such a long time to address what seems to be a simple issue.” It must be addressed immediately without any more postponements. South Africa is leading the group with 13 points, followed by Rwanda with fewer points, Benin Republic at 8 points, and Nigeria with 7 points, while there are only four matches remaining. The next fixtures for the World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for September.
