Woro Massacre: Oluwo cautions President Tinubu against foreign security interference

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against foreign interference in Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly relations involving the administration of United States President Donald Trump.

This is as Oba Akanbi condemned the killing of innocent villagers and cautioned against what he described as the politicisation of bandit attacks in different parts of the country.

The Osun monarch made this known in a statement by his Spokesperson, Alli Ibraheem on Tuesday.

Commiserating with the people and government of Kwara State over the bandit attack on Woro village, which reportedly claimed the lives of more than 170 residents, he added that Nigeria’s engagement with Western nations should be carefully reviewed to ensure that such interactions do not undermine national unity or security efforts.

Oba Akanbi urged Nigerians to embrace unity and collective responsibility, stressing that insecurity could not be effectively addressed in a divided society.

He expressed concern over the low public reactions to the Woro attack, noting that the victims were predominantly Muslims and warning against responses driven by religious or political sentiment.

According to him, “The success recorded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is a threat to western countries, and foreign intervention on Nigeria’s security architecture should be handled with caution.

“The low reactions recorded after the Woro village attacks call for sober reflection. More than 170 Nigerians who are Muslims were killed overnight.”

Oba Akanbi stated that no country had successfully overcome banditry or terrorism through religious division, calling for a unified national approach to security challenges.

The monarch also criticised individuals and groups he accused of exploiting bandit attacks for religious or political advantage, describing such actions as unpatriotic.

Oba Akanbi called on security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration with local communities to curb attacks and prevent further loss of lives and property.

“I equally call on the Nigerian security architecture to improve intelligence gathering operations. Information is power, and cooperation from local residents will help halt banditry,” he said.
