With the 2025 Local Government elections nearing completion throughout Lagos State, counting of votes has begun at Polling Unit 024, Ward B, located in the Makoko area of Yaba. While certain units have transitioned into the collation stage, others are still waiting for voters to participate. Officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) stood ready at Polling Unit 002 in the same ward, as voters were still not present. Overall, the election activities in Yaba were conducted without issues, but were significantly affected by a low voter turnout. At Ward F, Unit 012 on Iwaya Road, voting was still ongoing at the time this report was filed, although officials noted concerns about the low turnout. Similar observations were made in other areas of Iwaya, where LASIEC staff characterized the voting as slow and lacking in public participation. Conversely, in Ward G at St. Timothy College, polling units 001 to 005 experienced a more organized voting process, which occurred in a calm and orderly manner. Election observers recognized the peacefulness of the event but expressed worries about the noticeable apathy among voters. Many emphasized that the low participation could undermine both the validity and inclusiveness of the eventual results. LASIEC representatives are continuing to encourage eligible voters to make use of the remaining time, as polls are set to close at 3:00 p.m.
