
Yobe State House of Assembly has on Wednesday passed the 2026 Finance and Appropriation Bill of over N515 billion into law.
The House passed the budget after adopting the report of its Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2026 budget proposal.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the passage, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello said over N223,628,000,000 was allocated for recurrent expenditure, while more than N291,903,000,000 was earmarked for capital projects.
He explained that, “The House reduced the size of the proposed budget by N51,000,000 to ensure a realistic and achievable estimate”.
According to him, the 2026 budget will be utilized for road construction, improvement of commercial activities, provision of agricultural inputs for job creation among youths, and completion of ongoing projects across the state.
He charged internally generated revenue agencies to ensure proper remittance to enable the state government effectively implement the 2026 budget and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, commended members for their commitment toward the speedy passage of the budget and directed the Clerk of the House to forward the clean copies of the bill to the executive for assent.
In another development, a bill for a law to establish Yobe State Agency for Drug Abuse Control and Rehabilitation was presented on the floor of the House by the House Leader, Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, while the bill for a law to repeal and re-enact the Rural Electrification Commission to generate, supply, transmit and sale electricity at the rural areas of the state was read for the second time.
