
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has charged auditors in the state to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professional ethics.
Governor Buni gave the charge on Thursday through his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, when he received members of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) on a courtesy visit.
He noted that auditors play a critical role in strengthening accountability in governance by preventing fraud, curbing financial mismanagement, and ensuring prudent use of public resources.
āYobe has been recognised for its examplary fiscal transparency and accountability, which led the state to win the best state in fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability (SFTAS) award, a world bank programme.
āThe State ranked 13th in 2020, 5th in 2021, 1st in 2023 and 2024 assessment respectively,ā he said.
The Governor commended the state auditor general for always giving professional advice to public office holders to avoid inadvertent financial misappropriation and mismanagement.
Leader of the delegation who doubled as Director of Accounting Standards (Private Sector) at the Financial Reporting Council, Musa Kabiru Jemaku, explained that the council serves as the apex regulatory body responsible for enhancing investorsā confidence, promoting transparency, and enforcing high standards in financial reporting, auditing, valuation, monitoring, and compliance with financial reporting standards.
He reaffirmed the councilās commitment to working closely with states to strengthen accountability frameworks and promote best practices in financial governance.
