The Emir of Gudi in Yobe State, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed Gadaka, on Friday embarked on a personal inspection tour of schools across his domain, pledging to hold teachers, parents and community leaders accountable for absenteeism and neglect.
The monarch said the inspection became necessary to ensure that government investments in education are properly utilised and to identify challenges his council could help to resolve.
He issued a strong warning to teachers, criticising what he described as a growing trend of absenteeism.
“Sometimes you see schools where the government has invested heavily, but there are no teachers.
“I cautioned them and made them understand that government work is from Monday to Friday. Whatever personal programmes you have cannot interfere with the working days,” the Emir warned.
The royal father also lamented the attitude of some parents who prioritise sending their children to farms instead of school.
“I saw it as a mandatory for me, as the traditional leader of this area, to caution them. Every parent should send their children to school. Where that is lacking, I will not take it lightly,” he asserted.
To institutionalise monitoring, the Emir has directed all village and district heads to regularly oversee schools within their respective areas.
