Former Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare and his donors, IMANI Ghana and Professor Kwasi Aning, have dragged President John Dramani Mahama to court over his sack of the IGP.
Earlier on Thursday, March 13th, it was announced that President John Dramani Mahama had relieved the IGP from his blog.
In his favor, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was named the new IGP. A swearing-in meeting for the fresh IGP is slated for Friday, March 14th.
A discussion has been raging for days in Ghana over the death of Dampare, with some calling for him to be maintained for doing a great career while others fought for his removal.
The legislation think tank, IMANI Ghana fought for Dampare to be kept on, and with information of his impending departure, dragged the President to judge.
In a summons filed at the Supreme Court, the defendants are seeking for an order to avoid Mahama from removing Dampare from business. They argue that the IGP and other heads of security companies should not be removed unless they are found to have engaged in wrongdoing.
The defendants prayed the court to order the President to refrain from changing Dampare until the substantial event has been heard. The Supreme Court, however, postponed the situation and gave the Attorney General seven days to respond.
