Tsakani – Timken customer service employees donated over 60 underpants to boy learners at Michael Zulu Primary School on January 25.
This comes after the school principal mentioned to the company that school initiatives are not always inclusive of boy children.
“We saw the need to donate underwear to this school after we saw the need at the school.
“The first time other members of our company came to this school, they learnt about the needs of the school, particularly the boys.
“There was no budget for this initiative, but we as staff raised funds from our own pockets,” explained Relebogile Mahlaba.
Mahlaba mentioned they aimed to continue to assist the school with their needs, saying they would raise more funds.
“We will also communicate with our company’s HR department to ask them to assist us in raising funds to help this school where possible,” she added.
School principal Lindiwe Vilakazi cited that the contributions will make an impactful difference in every child’s life.
“We concentrate as a school this year on boys.
“Everything we will ask for from companies, individuals and locals will be to assist our boy learners.
“I feel we mostly neglect boy kids and often focus on the girls, forgetting they also need to be recognised, loved and should receive gifts,” said Vilakazi.
She mentioned the school will operate on the theme of ‘amazing grace.’
“Timken has promised to provide our boys with toiletries when they return,” she added.
