Kwa-Thema – ANCYL from Ward 78 shone the spotlight on uncommon sports on Freedom Day, at Ndaba Tree.
“We are raising awareness on sports territory such as skateboarding and BMX riding. These sports are official in the Olympics but children are not well educated or aware of such.
“There is a growing number of BMX riders and skateboarding enthusiasts here in Kwa-Thema.
“Last year at the Olympics South Africa was presented by a 49-year-old while we have children who are passionate about these sports,” said Freedom Tshabalala, chairperson of the ANCYL in the Sakhelwe Primary School VD.
Tshabalala said that the talented youngsters need support from the local government.
The day’s events included a 5-a-side soccer tournament, a netball match between Tornado Sports Academy and Kwa-Thema Netball Academy of which Kwa-Thema Netball Academy won.
