Zailan Peeler, a former Myers Park High School athlete who eventually made a comeback as a staff member, passed away.
Past coach Nick Jones, who paid tribute to his former teammate and athlete in a moving gift, announced Peeler’s passing. Although no official cause of death has been established, accounts suggest Peeler died in an accident.
After playing on the varsity basketball team for three decades, Zailan Peeler graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2017. He then starred in the Carson Newman Eagles and the Tusculum Inventors in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
Peeler returned to Myers Park after his college career, where he spent time on the coaching team.
Nick Jones, a Peeler coach from his junior season at MP in 2015, shocked to learn of Jones ‘ moving and commended him for being a hardworking and determined sprinter who afterwards became a valued part of his coaching staff.
” In 2015 when i started at MP you were a Junior…. Graduated in 2017…. left for Tusculum/Carson Newman…came house every tear to workout…. came residence for great in 2020 and spent the last two years coaching with us,” Jones wrote in a blog on X remembering Peeler.
