The Commander of One Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Gusau, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh, has said incidents of terrorism and banditry in Zamfara State have reduced significantly.
Jimoh made the claim while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 2025 West Africa Social Activities, WASA, organised by the One Brigade Command in Gusau.
According to him, sustained military operations under Operation Fansan Yamma have led to improved security across the state, allowing residents and travellers to move more freely.
He said routes linking Zamfara to neighbouring states, including Funtua–Gusau and Gusau–Sokoto, have witnessed a decline in security threats.
The brigade commander added that military operations would continue until criminal activities are brought to an end in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.
The Zamfara State Government, represented at the event by the Commissioner for Works, Lawal Barau, acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Army in addressing security challenges in the state.
Earlier, Jimoh said the WASA event was organised to strengthen relations between the military and the civilian population, noting that community cooperation had contributed to recent security gains.
The event featured award presentations to personnel and inter-agency activities involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
