Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, alongside members of his executive committee and several ward chairmen.
The group was formally received on Wednesday at the Abuja residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dalhatu said the decision followed extensive consultations and dissatisfaction with the current PDP-led administration in Zamfara, particularly regarding security.
He praised Matawalle’s record as former governor, noting his efforts to address security challenges during his tenure.
Dalhatu alleged that the current administration has failed to fulfil key campaign promises and focused more on political battles than governance.
He said the defectors were determined not to be associated with attempts to discredit Matawalle for political reasons.
“As indigenes of Maradun, we will not be part of any effort to undermine the reputation of our son, who has contributed to the development and stability of the state,” he said.
Among those who joined the APC with Dalhatu were the Maradun PDP Secretary, Alhaji Sani Ibrahim JB Danbaza; former State Assembly aspirant Hon. Bashar Muhammad Danbaza; PDP Chairman of Damaga Ward, Mallam Umar Attahiru; and PDP Youth Leader of Gora Namaye Ward, Hon. Zayyanu Yakubu.
Dalhatu added that arrangements are underway to receive additional PDP members in the coming days.
Welcoming the defectors, Matawalle described the APC as inclusive and committed to the welfare of its members. He assured the new entrants of equal opportunities within the party and pledged support to enable them contribute meaningfully to its growth and success.
