The municipal workers of the municipality of Ziguinchor held a sit-in on Wednesday 24 September to demand the effective payment of their new salaries. These increases are provided for by the agreement signed on 10 July 2025, which aligns the salaries of municipal employees with those of the State Public Service. Jointly by telephone with the correspondent of PressAfrik, Mr Habib Ngoundiam, Secretary-General of the Workers of the Territorial Authorities, Ziguinchor Section, he recalled that the measure concerned 153 agents, including 52 civil servants, for a total budget estimated at approximately 11 million CFA francs per month. According to him, the mairie disposes largely des ressources nécessaires pour honorer this commitment. “We know what we collect per day. The mairie is capable of resolving this question”, he declared, stressing that the annual budget of the institution amounts to nearly 5 billion CFA francs. The syndicalist insists on the imperative character of these expenditures. These are legal obligations.
