65-year-old woman rescued as fire guts residential building in IbadanĀ 

Operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service have rescued a 65-year-old woman from the scene of a fire incident in Ibadan, the state capital.

Chairman of the agency, Maroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.

Akinwande said the fire incident occurred in a residential building beside a primary healthcare centre in the Elekuro area of Ibadan, on Friday evening.

He said properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for proper medical attention.

ā€œOn getting to the scene of the incident, it was the second room of a boys quarter of an ancient residential building of six rooms engulfed by fire.

ā€œOur officers quickly swung into action and subdued and restricted the fire from spreading to other rooms and main building.

ā€œA woman of about sixty- five years of age sustained major injuries as a result of excessive smoke inhaled and was conveyed to the nearest hospital,ā€ Akinwande said.
