​WAFCON 2024: Babajide Shares Her Thoughts on Scoring Her First Goal for the Super Falcons.    

 

Rinsola Babajide has expressed her joy after scoring her first goals for the Super Falcons in their 3-0 victory over Tunisia during their opening match in Group B of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Babajide not only scored but also assisted in the match. She provided the assist for the first goal in the fourth minute, which was scored by Asisat Oshoala after her set piece. Later, she added a second goal right at the end of the first half, scoring with a low shot after maneuvering inside the box from the left side, beating the Tunisian goalkeeper at her near post. Additionally, Babajide reflected on her goal celebration, stating it was dedicated to Jota and his brother. Babajide shared her excitement on her X account about scoring her first goal for the Super Falcons and contributing to the team’s victory, saying, “A perfect start and debut!” Absolutely thrilled to have netted my first international goal for my nation! WHAT A SENSATION!!! I am grateful to God for blessing us with this day. At 27 years old, she received her first call-up to the Super Falcons in October 2023, making her debut on October 25, 2023, during a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers. In August 2018, Babajide was part of the England U20 team that secured bronze at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. In September 2020, she was called to a training camp for the senior England team. After playing for various English women’s clubs such as Liverpool, Millwall Lionesses, Watford, and Brighton & Hove Albion, Babajide is currently with the Spanish club Tenerife, which she joined in 2023 on a two-year contract.
