The former chairman of the Katsina PDP has stepped down from his position and switched his allegiance to the ADC.

Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, who previously served as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, has announced his departure from the party and his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2025, directed to the party’s leadership, Uli mentioned ongoing leadership issues and a deficiency of internal discipline within the PDP since 2022. He stated that the party had deviated from its original values and was unable to maintain accountability. “Red flags became apparent when certain individuals elevated themselves above party regulations, regardless of their wrongdoings,” he noted. Uli, who has been a founding member of the PDP since 1998, expressed his dedication to the objective of “liberating Nigeria and Katsina State,” and mentioned that he would now pursue this aim through the ADC, which he views as a more democratic, disciplined, and ideologically focused group. His departure contributes to a growing trend of exits from the PDP in Katsina, as ongoing internal conflicts continue to weaken the party. Recently, a faction led by former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, also departed from the party. The assembly consisted of 287 ex-hopefuls and contenders for positions in the State House of Assembly, local government chairmanship, and council roles. Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, who spoke for the defectors and is the Chairman of the Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants’ Forum, stated that feelings of betrayal and internal dishonesty were the reasons for their departure. “The PDP has diminished its credibility as an opposition party in Katsina.” “We are partnering with a new coalition to strengthen our political stance,” he stated.
