Ireti Kingibe, the senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that she believes she would be re-elected if she chooses to run for her National Assembly seat in the 2027 general elections, despite opposition from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Kingibe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, made her comments during a Tuesday appearance on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm. She is confident that the citizens of Abuja would support her re-election. It’s worth noting that Wike previously claimed in July 2024 that Kingibe would not be returning to the Senate in 2027. However, Kingibe asserted on Tuesday that she expects to achieve an even larger victory than in her previous election. Lastly, remember that I entered the Senate with one of the highest, if not the top votes among all lawmakers. “And it wasn’t solely about (Peter) Obi. “While he did attract some votes, I also contributed votes that wouldn’t typically go to him,” she stated. Kingibe went on to explain that the residents of Abuja hold a grudge against the former Rivers State governor, who was named FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023. She asserted that the minister has so far shown a lack of respect and consideration for the people of the FCT.
