Pride NYC 2025: A Demonstration for Humanity

This year’s Pride in New York City felt less like a festive event and more like a demonstration for human rights. On Sunday, June 29th, Tahyira Savanna marched to advocate for LGBTQIA rights and to promote a wider message of safeguarding love, identity, and freedom amidst a growingly unfriendly political environment. She participated in the march with the Caribbean Equity Project, representing her own non-profit organization, For Us Nation, which she co-established in 2018 to commemorate Juneteenth. Tahyira Savanna was present at Pride. A Demonstration for Affection and Freedom. Since cofounding her nonprofit For Us Nation in 2018, Savanna has participated in marches alongside the Caribbean Equality Project. The parade was founded to celebrate and respect lesbian, transgender, bisexual, intersex, asexual, and pansexual individuals—groups that continue to struggle for their right to love and live without fear. She highlighted a contradiction that we frequently overlook: While sex is bought and sold in many contexts, love continues to require advocacy. That’s a significant reality.. She walked with her Trinidadian flag slung over her shoulders, showing support for LGBTQIA individuals from the Caribbean.
