The fight against corruption: Diomaye Faye enterre l’Ofnac de Serigne Bassirou Guèye is the first of its kind in the world.

The Senegalese Government, under the impetus of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is embarking on an ambitious reform of the Office national de lutte contre la fraude et la corruption (Ofnac), aimed at making it more independent and more effective. Although the details of the project remain unclear, this initiative reflects an expressed will to strengthen the mechanisms of transparency and good governance. In other words, l’équipe de Serigne Bassirou Guèye will have to plier bagages avec cette réforme qui va entraîner la dissolution de l’Ofnac. Even if the former President had extended the powers of the Ofnac and extended the mandate to five years renewable once, this law suffit pour tourner la page de l’ancien procureur de la République qui, il faut le rappeler, n’était pas en odeur de sainteté avec les militants et autres responsables de Pastef. At the Council of Ministers on 29 July 2025, several draft laws were adopted, including the one on the reform of Ofnac, the revision of the system of declaration of heritage, the status and protection of whistleblowers, and access to information. These texts reflect the commitments of the President and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, in the fight against corruption, as announced during the session of topical issues at the National Assembly. It should be noted that the Ofnac reform, already initiated in January 2024 under the old regime, provided for the expansion of investigative powers, including the surveillance, the fight against illicit enrichment, and the clarification of the mandates of its members.
