The village of Soussoung, in the commune of Ndiaganiao, experienced, this Thursday 21 August, a lively agitation, following a series of arrests carried out by the gendarmerie. According to the Collectif pour la défense des terres de Soussoung, these operations have targeted several young people from the village in the middle of winter, while the population is mobilized in the fields. “A large part of the youth has fled for fear of being arrested”, denounces the collective in its communiqué. It evokes a climate of fear, chaos and turmoil, and further accuses the supporters of the career project of exploiting the situation to settle personal differences by arresting peaceful citizens. In its communiqué, the collective describes these methods as “repressive” and “of another age”. He appealed directly to the state authorities, in particular to President Diomaye Faye, recalling that he had publicly expressed himself in the Ndengler dossier, but remained silent on the case of Soussoung. Thus, the inhabitants demand the immediate cessation of arbitrary arrests, the unconditional release of the arrested persons and the opening of an independent investigation into what they describe as an opaque dossier. While awaiting a reaction from the authorities, the collective remains mobilized and determined to defend its land, its dignity and its future against any form of injustice and plunder.
