On 21 August 2025, the forces of the Sûreté urbaine du commissariat central de Mbour arrested a man suspected of being at the head of an important network of trafficking in hard drugs, specifically “kush”, a particularly dangerous synthetic substance. This operation, described by the authorities as a “coup de filet”, is part of the fight against drug trafficking on the Petite Côte Sénégalaise. The arrest was made possible thanks to an anonymous informant who alerted the police on the activities of a network operating in several localities, including Mbour, Saly, Nianing et Joal. The suspect, identified as the leader of the group, made regular trips to distribute his merchandise. Precise information indicated that he was going to Mbour for a delivery to a local bank. A discreet surveillance device was deployed, allowing the individual corresponding to the alert to be located while he was travelling on board a moto-taxi. Interpelled on the spot and searched, he was found in possession of two plastic bags containing a total of 430 “kepas” (small packets) of kush.
