The series of ceremonies for the commissioning of the newly electrified villages in the regions of Kaolack and Kaffrine came to an end this weekend, under the chairmanship of the Director General of the Senegalese Agency for Rural Electrification (ASER), Jean Michel Sène. After the localities of Kati and Keur Bidji, five new villages have officially been connected to electricity in the framework of the ASER Global Engineering and ASER AEE Power projects. This is the case for Darou Salam 2 (département of Malem Hodar, commune of Sagna), Taba (département of Koungheul, commune of Ida Mouride), Thiakhathie Mouride et Thiekene Mouride (département of Koungheul, commune of Ribot Escale), as well as Darou Dame Laye (département of Koungheul, commune of Lour Escale). These installations are part of the national policy of universal access to electricity, an objective which the State of Senegal aims to achieve by 2025. According to ASER, these projects reflect the desire to bring energy closer to rural populations, an essential condition for economic and social development. The Director-General of the ASER welcomed the mobilisation and support of the administrative and territorial authorities – governors, prefects, sous-prefects and mayors – who facilitated the implementation of the works. He also paid tribute to the technical teams of ASER, Senelec and their private partners for their commitment on the ground. In these now electrified localities, local inhabitants and elected officials have not hidden their satisfaction, believing that access to electricity will contribute to improving living conditions, promoting schooling, boosting economic activities and reducing territorial inequalities.
