The President of Senegal Participates in the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the UN in New York

This morning, on the occasion of the opening of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, took part in a high-level meeting marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN). This symbolic event, held at the UN headquarters in New York, brought together Heads of State and Government from around the world to reflect on the legacy and future of this multilateral institution. Founded in 1945 after the Second World War, the UN is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. This morning’s meeting focused on the organisation’s original mission: to maintain international peace and security, to defend justice and human rights, to promote cooperation between nations and to address collectively global challenges such as climate change, armed conflict, poverty and inequality. In a world marked by growing geopolitical tensions, this commemoration serves as a timely reminder of the importance of dialogue and international solidarity. The participation of the Senegalese Head of State in this anniversary underlines the historic commitment of Senegal to the principles of multilateralism. Since its independence in 1960, Senegal has been an active player within the UN, contributing notably to peacekeeping missions in Africa and elsewhere.
