The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, promulgated four laws recently adopted by the National Assembly, in the presence of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, of which he countersigned the decrees. These texts concern the protection of whistle-blowers, the creation of a reformed national office for combating corruption (Ofnac), the declaration of heritage and access to information. “These laws reflect our will to anchor transparency and integrity at the heart of public life”, declared the Head of State, stressing that they constitute “a decisive step towards a responsible and accountable governance”. The law on access to information was particularly awaited by media professionals. It paves the way for the establishment of a National Commission for Access to Information (Conai), an independent authority responsible for guaranteeing and protecting the right of citizens to be informed. “There can be no democracy without equitable access to public information”, insisted President Faye.
