The first traces of the investigation of the regional police of Ashanti

The mystery remains around the tragic disappearance of Cheikh Touré, a 17-year-old Senegalese footballer, who was found dead in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region (Ghana). In a communiqué published on 20 October 2025, the Ashanti Regional Police announced the opening of a criminal investigation in order to determine the exact circumstances of this death qualified as “non-natural”. According to the first elements of the investigation, Cheikh Touré was taken on 16 October last to the public hospital of Manhyia in a critical state, presenting “multiple abdominal injuries”. L’homme qui l’a transporté, identified under the name of Issah, affirmed that the young Senegalese had been the victim of an accident. The doctors, however, found that the player had died before his admission. It is this same individual, presenting himself as the “brother” of the victim, who would have then transferred the body to the morgue Ebenezer de Tafo, still in Kumasi.. The Ghanaian authorities indicate that a thorough investigation is underway to trace the path of the young footballer and identify all the people involved. They invite anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Kumasi. In Senegal, the authorities closely follow the evolution of the dossier. According to the first testimonies received from the family, Cheikh Touré had been the victim of a network of fraud and trafficking of young footballers, lured by false promises of tests abroad. This drama revives the debate on the clandestine channels of transfer of young African talents, often exploited by illegitimate recruiters.
