On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, Madiambal Diagne’s lawyers denounced the “totally unfounded and irregular” nature of the extradition request issued by the Senegalese authorities against their client. Le journaliste et patron de presse, arrested in Paris this Tuesday on the basis of a warrant for his arrest transmitted by the parquet général de Versailles, was heard by the Cour d’appel, which decided to leave him free under judicial control. In a communiqué signed by a group of Senegalese and French lawyers, including Mr El Hadj Amadou Sall, Mr William Bourdon and Mr Vincent Brengarth, the defence claims that “the decision of the first president of the Court of Appeal of Versailles takes account of the status of Madiambal Diagne, a public figure, a well-known journalist, owner of a press title”, and of the fact that “no one has the right to challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal”. “The dossier did not suggest that he would evade the extradition procedure”. The lawyers argue that the proceedings initiated by Dakar suffer from “manifest irregularities”, considering that “the accusations made against their client do not rest on any solid juridical basis. ”
