
Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspected members of an unlawful society following separate operations carried out on November 20, 2025.
The suspects are 28 year old Agunbiade Sunday, 32 year old Temitope Ajoba, 27 year old Akande Usman, 30 year old Waidi Azeez, 35 years old Adebayo Ismail, 28 year old Quadri Olaitan and the cult leader, 27 year old Bukola Okunola.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, disclosed the arrests during a press briefing at the Police headquarters on Wednesday.
CP Gotan revealed that the group was nabbed by the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command.
According to him, “the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command apprehended three suspected members of the Aiye confraternity at about 6:25pm in Iree following credible intelligence. The suspects were identified as Agunbiade Sunday, 28; Temitope Ajoba, 32; and Bukola Okunola, 27, described as members of an unlawful group believed to be causing unrest in the area.”
The Commissioner explained that “the suspects were apprehended while allegedly attempting to carry out activities linked to the cult group. Their arrest was made possible through timely information from vigilant residents.
In a separate operation carried out on the same day at about 5:30pm, four additional suspects were arrested following a petition submitted to the police. The individuals were identified as Akande Usman, 27, also known as Nasri; Waidi Azeez, 30, alias Ten Ten; Adebayo Ismail, 35, also called Lego; and Quadri Olaitan, 28, known as Ajo.
CP Gotan said the suspects were arrested for alleged conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.
“The Command acted promptly on the petition received, leading to the swift arrest of the individuals involved,” he noted.
He affirmed that all suspects were being investigated and would be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
“The Command will ensure that due process is followed and justice is served,” he stated.
He also noted that the action aligned with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to curb violent crimes across the country.
He stated that the Command had adopted a no retreat, no surrender approach since he assumed office, emphasising that the latest breakthrough was a product of sustained intelligence-led policing.
“We have remained resolute in the fight against all forms of criminality,” Gotan said.
The Commissioner urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies, stressing that the fight against unlawful societies required cooperation from the public.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun State Police Command to maintaining peace and security.
“We will not relent in safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens,” he said.
