AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Set to Compete in Group Matches in Fez

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will host all their group matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, which has a capacity of 45,000 seats in Fès, located in the northeastern region of Morocco. Under the management of Eric Chelle, they will kick off their tournament on Tuesday, December 23, facing the Taifa Stars of Tanzania. This will be the second time these two nations meet in the AFCON finals, with their previous encounter occurring during the 1980 tournament, when Nigeria triumphed 3-1. In their upcoming match, the Super Eagles will face the Carthage Eagles from Tunisia in four days. Tunisia previously knocked out the three-time champions in the Round of 16 during AFCON 2021. Nigeria’s last group stage game against Uganda’s Cranes is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30. Historically, Nigeria’s only encounter with Uganda at AFCON resulted in a semi-final defeat at the Kumasi Stadium in 1978. The top two teams from each of the six groups, along with four of the best third-placed teams, will progress to the knockout phase of the tournament. Reported by Adeboye Amosu.
