The President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Nigeria, AOPAN, Dr Alex Nwuba, has stated why airfare is on the increase.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday, Nwuba said airfare hike is demand-driven and compensation for low fares during low seasons.
He said that every year, it’s exactly the same, stressing that the prices unfortunately go up.
According to him, the prices will go down next year because the government has promised to reduce taxes and charges.
“It’s not new every year. It’s the same. Prices go up at Christmas time, the forces of economics at play.
“It is demand driven that price increases, and it’s compensation for low fares during the low season. So every year it’s exactly the same. The prices go up.
“It’s unfortunate but they’ll go down next year because the government has promised to reduce taxes and charges,” he said.
DAILY POST recalls that the Nigerian Senate recently summoned the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and key stakeholders in the sector for an urgent interaction after public outcry over the sudden rise in domestic airfares.
