
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ogun State has apprehended 16 drivers for overspeeding along the SagamuāAbeokuta expressway.
The drivers were apprehended on Tuesday during a special intervention patrol led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, accompanied by the Head of Operations.
According to a statement by the commandās spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, the patrol was part of efforts to achieve the 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal, which targets a 10 per cent reduction in road traffic fatalities and injuries.
Odunsi-Oyewole attributed the main causes of road crashes in the state to overspeeding, adding that a laser radar gun was used to apprehend the offenders and ensure that speed-limiting devices were fitted in their vehicles.
He said: āThe Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, led the special intervention patrol along SagamuāAbeokuta road and was accompanied by the Head of Operations.
āThe laser radar gun was used to apprehend drivers for overspeeding offences and also ensured that speed-limiting devices were fixed in the offendersā vehicles. Sixteen offenders were booked for overspeeding violations.ā
The Sector Commander admonished the offenders on the dangers of overspeeding and overloading, and emphasised the need to stay safe while driving.
He also assured members of the public that the special intervention patrol will continue throughout the yuletide season and reiterated the commandās commitment to ensuring a safe motoring environment.
