President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to review the decision to withdraw police from Very Important Persons, VIPs.
DAILY POST reported that the President recently ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs across the country.
The Presidency had told Nigerians that the withdrawn personnel will be redeployed to core policing duties in communities.
Following the announcement, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, described it as a child’s play, insisting the withdrawal won’t be implemented.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi stressed that the move was a political gesture that does not address Nigeria’s escalating security crisis.
However, the police have since begun the implementation with members of the Nigerian legislature crying out the loudest
Several lawmakers have kicked against the President’s decision, saying their lives are at risk.
Addressing the President during the 2026 Budget presentation on the floor of the Senate on Friday, the Senate President, Akpabio spoke on behalf of his colleagues.
“Some members of the National Assembly say I should let you know that they may not be able to go home today. We plead with the President to review the decision,” he said.
