The Federal Government has sought continuous support of the Emir of Lafiagi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, and the people of Lafiagi for the completion and operations of the Lafiagi Sugar Company (LASUCO).
The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Emir’s palace, noting that the sugar factory stands out among sugar projects nationwide for recording minimal community-related challenges.
According to the minister, the peaceful environment in Lafiagi reflects the community’s understanding of the long-term economic and social benefits associated with hosting a large-scale agro-industrial project. He stressed that such cooperation is critical to the success and sustainability of investments in the sector.
Enoh highlighted the importance of traditional institutions and host communities in nurturing major industrial ventures, describing the Emir and residents of Lafiagi as exemplary partners in national development.
Explaining the purpose of his visit, the minister said engaging traditional rulers remains a priority during official engagements, especially when projects are rooted within local communities.
He added that the success of the sugar plantation would directly benefit the people of Lafiagi, noting that community support ultimately translates into shared prosperity.
The minister also explained that his visit was part of efforts to move beyond policy discussions in Abuja and assess sugar projects firsthand, expressing optimism that the inspection would lead to tangible progress.
DAILY POST reports that Senator Enoh has been touring sugar plants across the country, including the BUA-owned LASUCO, as part of ongoing efforts to boost local sugar production.
