Kano, neighbouring states strengthen joint patrols, intelligence sharing to tackle insecurity

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has revealed that discussions have reached an advanced stage between Kano and neighbouring states to establish joint security strategies, including coordinated patrols and intelligence sharing, aimed at curbing banditry and other crimes along state borders.

Governor Yusuf disclosed this on Tuesday, at the graduation ceremony of 2,000 personnel of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

According to the Governor, “The Kano State Government will work closely with other governors in the North-West under the platform of the North-West Governors’ Forum to ensure that criminal elements do not find safe haven anywhere in the region.”

He explained that the forum, chaired by the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, is taking deliberate steps to address the security challenges confronting the zone.

Governor Yusuf further called on traditional rulers and security agencies, including the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Army, Hisbah, and KAROTA, to extend full cooperation to the Neighbourhood Watch Corps.

“No single security agency can guarantee safety on its own. Collective effort and synergy are required to protect lives and property in Kano State,” he said.

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, and the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, also addressed the gathering, urging stronger collaboration among government, security agencies, and communities.

They stressed that sustainable peace and security can only be achieved through unity and shared responsibility, noting that collective action remains the most effective approach to tackling insecurity.
