NIGEL – Cambridge Football Club hit the road running on February 15 in a clash against Hoftech Football Club in Duduza.
The match formed part of the Regional Hollywood Bets League, with both teams eager to secure vital points.
The match was initially pencilled in to be played at Cambridge’s home ground, the MacKenzileville Stadium. Because the stadium’s field was not prepared in time, they moved it to Duduza.
With most players coming from Duduza, it was like a second home to them. The boys showed character from the start and wanted to ensure they did not fall into the same trap as the previous week.
This time, they showed commitment and dedication in their play. Bridges dominated possession and found spaces in the attack.
Local goalkeeper Sipho Sashman was on point in leading from the back with great saves. Cambridge’s opening score came from a crosskick from the left back, Nkososana Ndati and Keletso Molibeli completed the cross with a header.

Hoftech could find the equaliser 10 minutes later. Thereafter, Cambridge put a few moves together by circulating the ball through various phases. Njabulo R1 Mhlongo headed another cross into the back of Hoftech’s net.
In the second half, Cambridge played with purpose and pushed more players forward. To strengthen their attack, coach John Mourinho Mosia brought in experienced players as part of his tactical adjustments.
It yielded satisfactory results as Oupa Jr Mbokazi scored a brilliant team effort goal. With 15 minutes to play, Mbokazi scored his second goal and put Cambridge 4-1 in the lead. With time ticking by, Bridges kept possession of the ball and wound down the clock.
“Every team we are playing is out to upset the applecart. I am trying to instil in the players that they must treat every game as a knockout game. Our game plan worked well this time. The league is a marathon that we must run. I believe the players must play a clean game and respect their opponents,” said Mosia.
“I am proud of our team and the performance they produced. For me, it was pure class. I hope the team can be more consistent and show the investors we want to put Nigel on the football map and get promoted to the national third division league,” said Ignatius Maphike Cambridge Club chairperson.
