
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that insecurity is the major challenge Nigeria is currently facing.
Makinde made this disclosure during the grand finale and laying of wreaths of the 2026 Armed Forces celebration and remembrance day.
DAILY POST reports that the event was held at Lekan Salami sports complex, Adamasingba in Ibadan, the state capital on Thursday.
Governor Makinde while addressing the gathering, noted that Nigeria is passing through a challenging time, saying that efforts are being taken to tackle the challenges.
He described the recent killing of five forest rangers at old Oyo national park as unfortunate.
Makinde maintained that the state government is planning to provide assistance to the families of the deceased.
He used the opportunity to thank security personnel for what he described as a good job, asdding that the state government will continue to support security agencies to ensure peace and tranquility in the state.
Makinde said, “I can only say thank you to the officers and men of the Nigeria Armed Forces. This is a challenging time for us as a nation. We are still dealing with all sorts of security challenges and they have been trying their best.
“I want to say that for us, as a government, we will continue to give the necessary support to ensure that it is not a hardship posting for them.
“For Oyo State, a few days back, we had an incident at the Old Oyo National Park where some forest guards were killed. We commiserate with their families and we will do our best to ensure that they are looked after. It is not time to play the blame game”.
