Federal High Court gets new Chief Registrar as Hassan proceeds to the Bench as Judge 

The Federal Judicial Service Commission, FJSC, has approved the appointment of Barrister Yahaya Yakubu Shafa as Acting Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

The appointment made public on Tuesday in Abuja is with effect from February 17, 2026, having been approved by the FJSC at its 98th Mecting held on 22nd January, 2026

Shafa’s appointment followed the elevation of the outgoing Chief Registrar, Sulaiman Amida Hassan to the Bench of the Federal High Court as a Judge.

A statement by the Court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, explained that the new appointment is in line with the Court’s commitment to ensuring continuity, efficiency, and stability in its administrative leadership.

Shafa is said to be a seasoned judicial administrator and legal practitioner with over 18 years experience in the justice sector.

Prior to his appointment, he was said to have served as Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission, where he played a pivotal role in judicial administration, policy coordination, and institutional development.

The statement hinted that Shafa’s experience in court administration, legal practice and institutional reform is expected to further strengthen the administrative machinery of the Federal High Court and enhance the efficient delivery of justice.

The Court wished Sulaiman Amida Hassan well as he moved to the Bench as a Judge and Shafa as he took over as the acting Chief Registrar.
