Adamawa Gov, Fintiri backs creation of state policeĀ

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has thrown his full support behind the creation of state police to address the wave of insecurity bedeviling Nigeria.

Fintiri revealed his support on Tuesday during an interview on ā€˜Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television, where he noted that state police will allow states have more armed men to cover ungoverned spaces.

DAILY POST reports that the creation of state police has been a national debate for years, with many claiming it would leave too much power in the hands of state governors.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu, had at a recent interaction with Senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, urged the lawmakers to expedite action in formulating provisons for the creation of state police.

Governor Fintiri fielding questions during his interview said, ā€œIt is to allow the states to have state police so that we can have sufficient armed men that we can send to go and take care of these ungoverned spaces.

ā€œOf course, for now, that is the only answer. We can’t ask that we have a private army, but we can have the state police, which, to me, if properly motivated and equipped, can cover those areas.ā€
