2027: Osun APC denies endorsing candidates for national, state assembly elections

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has dismissed reports claiming that its leadership has endorsed candidates for the 2027 National Assembly and House of Assembly elections.

The state chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, clarified the position in a statement issued on Monday, urging party members to ignore what he described as false claims circulating within political circles.

Lawal said the party leadership had not held any meeting or taken any decision regarding endorsement of aspirants for the legislative elections scheduled for 2027.

According to him, “There is no iota of truth in the claim that the leadership of the party has anointed candidates for the National and House of Assembly elections.”

He added that the rumour was being spread by individuals seeking to create unnecessary tension within the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

“It was wrong for some elements to be spewing falsehoods from the corners of their rooms depicting that the leadership of the party has anointed some candidates,” Lawal said.

The chairman urged members and supporters of the party to disregard the claims, describing them as misinformation intended to destabilise the party.

“I want to appeal to the esteemed members and loyal supporters of our party to discountenance the misinformation and disinformation and consign same to the dustbin of information,” he said.

Lawal stressed that party members should instead focus on the upcoming governorship election and mobilise support for the party’s candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and his running mate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti.

He noted that the victory of the party in the governorship election would serve as a foundation for other electoral contests in the state.

“What should preoccupy the minds of our members now should be the concerted efforts to collectively work for the victory of our governorship candidate and his running mate,” he stated.

Lawal warned that promoting internal discord for personal political ambition would not serve the collective interest of the party.

Reaffirming the party’s position, he said the leadership under his watch had not endorsed any aspirant for the National Assembly or State House of Assembly elections.

“It is a figment of the imagination of those propagating the falsehood deliberately to destabilise our party,” he added.
