Catholic Bishops felicitate Muslims on Eid el-Fitr, advocate national unity

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has extended warm greetings to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, calling for a renewed commitment to peace and national healing.

President of the CBCN and Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Ndagoso commended the Muslim faithful for their discipline during the sacred month of Ramadan.

He noted that the acts of fasting, prayer and almsgiving, served as a “compelling witness to faith” in a world often distracted by excess and division.

The archbishop highlighted the unique significance of this year’s spiritual calendar, noting that both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria commenced their respective fasting seasons on the same day.

”This providential convergence highlights our shared commitment to sacrifice, prayer and reliance on God,” he said.

He added that the coincidence served as a reminder that both faith groups were bound together in a common pursuit of righteousness and peace.

Addressing the current state of the country, the CBCN president urged Nigerians to move beyond mere coexistence and embrace genuine brotherhood to tackle the nation’s pressing issues.

”At a time when our nation faces serious challenges, it calls us to live as brothers and sisters, working side by side for the healing and renewal of our land,” Ndagoso stated.

The archbishop prayed for the enduring fruits of Ramadan to purify intentions and deepen compassion across the country.

He further sought divine guidance for Nigeria’s leaders, asking that they be led in the path of righteousness and in the service of the common good.

“May the Almighty God bless our nation with unity, protect all who dwell in it and bring abundant blessings to your families,” he said.
