
Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has apprehended one Chief Edet, the village head of Asik Ubofa Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, Mbo Local Government Area, for alleged illegal possession of firearm.
The Commandās Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday, said operatives acted on intelligence and successfully recovered one AK- 47 rifle and two empty magazines.
She said, āOn 24th March, 2026, at about 1015hrs, detectives swung into action and stormed the suspectās location. During the operation, the team successfully recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines. The suspect was arrested at the scene without incident.
āThe suspect is currently in police custody while discreet investigation has commenced to ascertain the source of the firearm, determine his motives, and apprehend other possible accomplices for prosecution.
āThe Command reiterates its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and warns individuals in possession of unlawful firearms to voluntarily surrender them or face the full weight of the law.ā
The spokesperson commended the public for availing security agencies with useful information and urged them to continue with the collaboration.
