Police arraign two women over alleged murder of Nasarawa Varsity studentĀ

The Nigeria Police have filed criminal charges against two women, Grace Okosun and Zainab Abdulmumin, over the alleged murder of a 19-year-old student of Nasarawa State University, Zubeidat Isa.

The case, which came up before the FCT High Court sitting in Apo Resettlement, could not proceed during the last sitting, prompting the court to fix a new date for hearing.

According to the charge marked CR/335/2025 and dated May 27, 2025, the police accused the defendants of culpable homicide in connection with the death of the student. The charge was filed by Wisdom Madaki of the Legal Prosecution Section of the Nigeria Police.

The police alleged that the offence was committed on February 13, 2025, within the jurisdiction of the court. In the charge sheet, the prosecution stated that the defendants conspired to commit culpable homicide, an offence punishable under Sections 96 and 97 of the Penal Code.

The charge further alleged that Grace Okosun, 32, of No. 246 Jahi behind Platinum Mall, Gwarimpa, and Zainab Abdulmumin, 28, of Mab Global Estate, Gwarimpa Extension, killed the victim at House 3, Annex Hotel, after suspecting her of having a relationship with Okosun’s boyfriend, identified as Kelvin Donaldson, contrary to Sections 220 and 221 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, a pressure group, Egbira Voice Worldwide, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, demanding justice for the deceased.

In the petition signed by the group’s President-General, Prince Raji Anas, and General Secretary, Kenneth Enebe, the organisation insisted that those responsible for the alleged killing must be prosecuted.

The group claimed that the prime suspect, said to be the victim’s employer, allegedly lured the teenager from her family home on the day of the incident under the pretext of assigning her work.

According to the petition, the victim was at home observing her day off when she was called by her employer to report for duty, after which she never returned.

The court is expected to continue hearing in the matter on July 7, 2026.
